January February 2006

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Welcome everyone to the second Year of the CoCo Lounge, and the More Marshmallow page! This month I wish to take a look at what I plan to do with the lounge in the next 12 months (sort of my New Year's Resolutions), But first, lets look a what happened in 2005.
2005 was a strange year. With the US war in Iraq heating up, less and less US Ebay sellers were willing to ship to Canada. There were a few reasons for this:
1) In many American's eyes, just because the Canadian Government didn't support Bush, we are anti-American. It doesn't mater to those people if THEY Themselves didn't like Bush, they think we all have to support the US, no mater what it does.
2) The custom forms: Many Americans do not have the time or patients to fill out a small customs form. To those that do ship to Canada, they know it only takes about 3 minutes, but many people just don't want to go through the hassle.
3) in some extreme cases, the US Postal service workers do not know how to assist people in filling out the forms, so they make it extremely tough and blame it on "Homeland Security".

As a result, E bay buyers from Canada are having a tough time getting good pieces off Ebay. The sellers that do offer to ship to Canada, offer end up with double what the "US only " shippers get.
I am NOT making any political statements here, just facts - I prefer to stay as far away from politics as humanly possible. It is also NOT my intention to insult or offend ANY one with the above statements. SO, Please do not send me HATE Mail over this.

I myself had plans this year to open a "Physical" location of the CoCo lounge. A museum here in Edmonton Dedicated to (at first) the CoCo and then eventually to all of Tandy Computers. A "Hands on" place where people could come and play with the CoCo. I have plans to include this in my (High End) Computer store, where we do sales service and run classes on how to use your computer, Web-sites, Video and Audio Production, Pre-press work.-Basicly ANYTHING to do with computers, we have the expertise and experience to accomplish. The lounge would be open weekends.
This is still a possibility and right now my partner (Corey and myself, are looking for potential backers).
I had also planned by now to have an actual BBS system up and running for everyone here at the lounge (with a toll free number).
I also wanted the website completely done with all PDF manuals and as Many Magazines I could get my hands on. I had plans to do a form, but I didn't want to be accused of "Copying" COCO3.com. My goal is to have a completely different site than CoCo3.com and hopefully one that people will be willing to go to both sites equally.
My last goal was to have a complete, working CoCo 1,2 and 3, with all the toys, clones and such. So far, it is going slower than I thought

Looking forward to 2006

What will 2006 bring?
My goals have not changed all that much. The first thing I plan to do is get a new Domain for the CoCo lounge. My big thanks to Brian for generously providing this sub-domain, but I need way more space. I also have no statistics that the counter on the first page. It would be nice to know what people are actually reading and looking at. I plan to do this move by June, of course YOU can always help out and Donate a buck or two to help with the new domain. Just be sure to label it "Domain Donation" so I can put it in the Domain name fund. With your help, the new site will have an FTP archive for everything, like ROMS, PDF's, Programs ETC. You suggestions, articles, help is always welcome.
I still want to do the BBS and museum. This may just be a pipe dream, but one has to have goals. Meanwhile, I will just keep plugging away at OS-09, and buying off E-bay. YOUR donations are ALWAYS welcome, whether it is in the form of cash or CoCo stuff ,no mater how common the programs, hardware or whatever is.

Peace and God bless all.

-Glen

and now for a new feature: I will be putting up a picture for Rainbow,or any CoCo magazine, book,or instruction Manual. I will be calling it "Twisted Cables". I want your captions. The funniest ones will be published in the next issue. I will put my one lame ones up with the original.
